National Childrens Dental Health Month

The American Dental Association sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month every February to raise awareness about the importance of children’s dental health. Early childhood cavities is the number one chronic disease affecting young children and is 5 times more common than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever. Unfortunately, dental care is neglected in many low-income communities and leads to prolonged health problems and absences from school. Developing good oral hygiene at an early age and scheduling routine dental visits helps children establish a healthy start to a lifetime of clean teeth and gums. We strongly encourage parents to:

  • Brush their children’s teeth daily.
  • Even baby’s teeth need to be cleaned with a damp cloth.
  • Encourage your kids to floss daily.

In collaboration with Dental Offices throughout America, the ADA sponsors Give Kids a Smile Day every February to promote dental awareness among children as well as to help communities. You can visit their page for more information about this day: http://www.ada.org/givekidsasmile.aspx Additionally, we have some downloadable activity sheets that will surely get your kids talking about teeth!
