Are Dental Implants the Future of Dentistry?

As a graduate of State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, I am extremely excited and fortunate to be involved in the field of dentistry. During my residency at the VA Medical Center in Northport, NY, I had my first opportunity to work with Dental Implants and was able to restore multiple full mouth cases. I had the opportunity to see how Dental Implants can change a person’s life. Now, years later, as I operate my own dental practice, I encourage patients to consider Implants.

In 2009, before Dental Implants became the norm, The New York Times published an article chronicling one man’s experience with replacing missing teeth. His own homework into Dental Implants revealed what most of us Dentists believe, that a Bridge is not a permanent solution and that Dental Implants to replace missing teeth are by far the best long term solution for maintaining a healthy mouth. Also, because they rarely need to be replaced, they are more economical in the long run.

Dental Implants have come a long way since this article was published in 2009. Better materials, procedures, and experience results in fewer problems than when they were first introduced. Unlike Bridges, which can be a breeding ground for bacteria, implants can be treated like natural teeth: they can be kept clean and free of plaque through flossing and regular professional cleanings. More information on the procedure can be found here.

Along with Dr. Chaudhry, our in-house Oral Surgeon, we routinely restore missing teeth using Dental Implants. Here is a recent single tooth implant case that I have had the pleasure of working on, followed by a full mouth rehab case.

Pre-Implant and Post Post Surgery and Restoration

I highly encourage my own patients to do their own due diligence and homework before signing up for Dental Implants. I do believe they are the future of Dentistry! Stay tuned for more photos of my cases.
